At this very moment, the Manifestos are being printed at the Danish Design School (Danmarks Designskole) in Copenhagen. 10 copies, which will be handed over to selected politicians and diplomats, amongst whom UN Climate Chief Yvo de Boer, and 100 small versions of the Manifesto made for the press. So here we are, in Copenhagen. Countdown has initiated. Tomorrow is the big day. We have made it,...

Tail wind on our road!
“If you turn on the light in Denmark, 20% of the energy will be wind power.” This morning a lecture on energy by Hans Mogensen from the Danish energy comapny EnergiNet. In four years there will be an increase of 30 to 40% of wind power and already Denmark leads by far compared with all the EU countries, when it comes to using wind power for electricity consumption. Today you can find...

Negotians Simulation Game!
Today the first real scooter trip was a fact for shift 3 riders. After an inspiring morning on campaigning strategies, we hit the road for a cold but beautiful 40 kilometer scooter trip. Infrastructure During lunch we shared our first thoughts on our topic of the manifesto: Infrastructure. A lot of ideas came up on how infrastructure should be used in order to stimulate electric mobility. Then we...

Roving roadie reporters everywhere...
A number of Dutch websites’ are keeping a close eye on what’s going on during the Road to Copenhagen. They do this by following one or more of roadies, who share their first hand experiences with these sites’ visitors. Get to know some of them here. Vera and Jim Vera and Jim report for www.doemaarduurzaam.nl, an online sustainability platform of a number of Dutch national...

Hamburg's Heaven
This evening the roadies went on a boat trip through the harbor of the German city Hamburg. The harbor authorities have already put a lot in effort to sustainability, though they admit they still haven’t reached to the point of sustainable satisfaction. The sea transport is becoming more and more environmental friendly, but the ferry services departing from Hamburg all over the Baltic Sea...

Electricity all the way!
Elmer van Grondelle, Program Manager Automotive at Delft University of Technology and Owner of Arx Consulting, is giving a lecture (as we speak) on automotive design. ‘When I buy a car, I always wonder why there is so much electronical pooha, that one hardly ever uses. Go figure, why to make a car like a toy box, while you can use all the technologies and scientific knowledge to create electric...

The first "real" day for shift 2
This morning we had a quite interesting lecture about marketing held by Kay van de Linde and Erik van Bruggen. I could really relate to that through my studying by involving consumers, costumers and so on, so I think that we had some very interesting discussions. I’ll come back to that later… Riding the scooters We all couldn’t wait to go ride the scooters and suddenly we...

Socialize now!
Naturally we try (and go) to make the people aware of the importance of sustainability. But how, that still seems to be the big question. Governments allready do their utmost, more or less, but for some reason everybody is hoping for an evolutionary change, while we need a revolutionary one. So? Reward the people. Give them incentives, don’t just tell them it would be better for the enviroment to...

COP15 abbreviations from A - Z
“If you want to influence the conference members at COP15, know the abbreviations.” It is one of the more practical insights mr. Henning Rentz, head of Corporate Policy of RWE and lecturer at Münster University, shared with the Road to Copenhagen caravan. So, here we go with some of the most used abbreviations in the realm of the UN climate conference. Learn them by heart, and only...

It's all about incentives
People often think wealth is being able to do something, or, even worse, to do anything. That is supposed to be it. But again, you are wrong, if you think so. Today the roadies paid a visit to RWE, the German energy company that recently took over Dutch counterpart Essent. We were told how RWE is focusing on products taking up an increased use of energy. RWE is, as the company itself stated, the...

Just a perfect day
‘The workshops were nice, the trip was nice, it is so good to be here’, says roadie Julie Schack from Denmark. Her big smile tells eventually much more than words can. A need to be heard But still she feels she, like all the roadies over R2C, needs to be heard. “How to make the people more aware? It is difficult, but the R2C brings up so many ideas. Naturally we should buy more...
