The Road to Copenhagen (R2C)
Video playlist: speakers at R2C

Here are a couple of short videos of speakers that gave lectures during the Road to Copenhagen.

Electricity all the way!

Elmer van Grondelle, Program Manager Automotive at Delft University of Technology and Owner of Arx Consulting, is giving a lecture (as we speak) on automotive design. ‘When I buy a car, I always wonder why there is so much electronical pooha, that one hardly ever uses. Go figure, why to make a car like a toy box, while you can use all the technologies and scientific knowledge to create electric applications which can make a car far more sustainable than they are now.’

Never cool
The big problem with sustainability in the automotive industry is the major gap between the feelings cars give you: a sustainable car never is cool to drive. Why? Because car brands are known for their designs. Electric cars have a complete different engine, and therefore the design is also new and more or less unseen yet.

BMW
For example take a look at a BMW: the front of the car is long and heavy, but has no point if there would be an electric engine in it. The challenge lies no in the middle of car designers and engine/technology designers. Quite interesting.

We identify with cars
Especially since we identify with cars. But is our climate way too big to be identified with? As logic as it may sound: if we want to create a great solution, we will have to come up with small differences. And after all, we all look small and tiny when in traffic jam. In other words: that could be a lot of small differences…
